That was the last time I visited Liverpool, the year Red Rum won his third Grand National. I stayed at the St. Georges Hotel and took the train back to London the following morning after the Grand National and had that terrific English breakfast on the train.

Do you remember if the Liverpool FC won the triple that year - FA Cup, League and UEFA(sp?)?

BTW how come you know so much about this ruffian culture?

Victor,

I was chatting to a guy this afternoon who told me about an interview he saw in the US with John Cleese. Apparently Cleese was asked to summarise the difference between the English and the Americans...

His reply?

1) The English actually speak English.
2) When England organises a "World Series" type of event, they actually invite sportsmen from other countries too.
3) When an Englishman greets the England Head of State, he only has to go down on one knee!
