[merger?]

hi shlomi,

if orctf were indeed going to merge with a competitor, my first thought would be ecilf... for all the reasons previously discussed... tho due to respective sizes of the co's would think that such would be more of a buyout (of orctf)... and am still inclined to think that orctf management, given the choice, would prefer to continue playing their own hand...

think pair/orctf unlikely, altho i'm inclined to think that pair will eventually "merge" with someone... expect it to be a buyout by a larger player (csco?/lu? etc ) who needs xdsl expertise... and a merger with orctf would seem to duplicate a number of product lines and silicon... for both hdsl and adsl... and therefore think such a marriage unlikely ...

---

am inclined to think that should there be a merger in the cards for orctf it would be more along the lines of a stock swap or an acquisition (by orctf)... and would therefore involve a smallish player with very good technology which would dovetail with orctf's strategic planning.. some first thoughts: at the top of the (wish)list: virata (formerly atml)

virata: tamir has spoken very highly of virata and their atm expertise... and the two companies are already working together, as part of (fwiw) an "important long term partnership".. tho it does seem a little one-sided right now as orctf is licensing their software and using (buying) their ARM RISC-core-based ATM chips for both adsl central office and cpe products..

an orctf/virata team would be international (atml's "principal operations are located in Cambridge, England and Santa Clara, California") and very hot...

altho there is some overlap on dsl silicon (thus virata could qualify as a competitor), for the most part would think orctf stronger on systems and xdsl silicon and virata stronger in xdsl interfaces (atm and ethernet): both software and silicon.. such a match would seem to offer opportunity for integration and evolution of product (including vdsl).. for both companies...

---

or maybe a private israeli co... someone along the lines of metalink or savan(?):

metalink: seems like they have some good tech and would think they might need to team up with someone to stay in the game.. orctf would pick up some good xdsl engineers and those are probably pretty hard to find..

savan (?) : more vdsl expertise

any thoughts?
