Yes -- it has been done... Vertica Software needed to change their symbol from VERT to VERI so VerticalNet could use it for their IPO. The confusion caused Vertica Software's stock to spike up a bit because people thought they were buying VerticalNet. cbs.marketwatch.com

sidenote . . I think with the confusion about the ticker . . something interesting is going to happen . . I've seen lots of NEW DUMB Investors purchasing issues other than their target company . . .If this doesn't straighten out in time for this IPO . .look for a quick bump in the price of AWEB then quickly correct . . This might be a good play for DAYTRADERS out there . . .Be on the look out if this happens and if anyone decides to play it remeber this . "What comes UP . . also comes down . ." - V
