I agree about tossing out all the mainframes. You are pretending
that these hurting corporations are made of money. They aren't and they can't waste what they do have on extra pcs.

In my experience, this is incorrect (though my experience is limited to small corporations, not Fortune 500, so it might not be as relevant to the discussion). I've worked as a consultant and in 4 different companies, and in every case, new hardware was a no-brainer (because the hardware is negligable relative to the price of the software developers.)

However, I do agree with your overall argument. I'd say that new purchases of anything computer-related will decline, and that people will spend all their money fixing the old stuff, rather than trying to implement a whole new systems. Much of what I've heard from many customers points to no spending on anything new in the latter half of this year.
