the odds of a contract being put to you prior to expiration is miniscule....the mere up/down volatilty actually encourages trading of the position, rather than excercising.....to sell puts you must have a margin account...the number of contracts you can sell goes against your margin credit line capacity...choose volatile issues with high liquidity, as they will give you greatest premiums...but you must believe in the direction of the underlying issue you trade in...
