I think we have also had the "OEM to justify a move to independence" idea reverberating around the SI FC threads for about a year now. At the end of the day - based on the article earlier this year and partly not being able to find a post of Craig's on the new McData switch, I would guess they would need that new ASIC to compete. If anybody knows different information I would appreciate it if they posted it. For others interested in the previous debate on backplanes - go to the second to the last link (post #20789) I posted and reconstruct the table looking at all of the manufacturers. The only manufacturers with switched backplanes are Ancor and Brocade. The body of the article discusses the limitations of bus vs. switched backplanes.

The most sobering recent message was yours about stock valuation based on price to sales ratios.
