The Fragrance Counter Revenues Surge 291 Percent as Traffic Grows Nearly Four-Fold to 2.3 Million Visitors
BRENTWOOD, N.Y., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Allou Health & Beauty Care, Inc. (Amex: ALU), today reported that revenues in the third quarter ended December 31, 1998, totaled $89.5 million, a 17 percent increase over the same period last year. Net income was $1,584,123 or 24 cents per share versus net income of $1,322,032 or 22 cents per share in the comparable period in fiscal 1998. Third quarter results reflect the conversion of the Jacobs family loan into the equity of Allou's online wholly owned subsidiary, The Fragrance Counter, resulting in a one time gain of 29 cents per share.
For the nine months revenues improved 10 percent to $247.8 million, resulting in a net income of $2,518,019 or 39 cents per share. David Shamilzadeh, senior vice president and chief financial officer, stated, "These results reflect continued strength in our core businesses, particularly prestige designer fragrances and a leap of 291 percent in our online retailing subsidiary The Fragrance Counter, Inc. The Company was so encouraged by its Internet sales, that management plans to add additional popular consumer products. As the Internet becomes the vehicle of choice for a growing number of shoppers, The Fragrance Counter is well positioned to benefit from the explosion in E-commerce. The Company added that over 2.3 million shoppers visited The Fragrance Counter during the third quarter, compared to 651,000 shoppers during the same period last year. This increase translated into third quarter revenues of $1.5 million.
