I have never heard anyone on this thread say they worship gold so until you can prove that statement I can only take it as an intended insult Lorne, of course they have. They just haven't used the same words to declare that fact. They use words like only gold backed paper is "real money". They're the ones who say that gold has intrinsic value that will last forever. (whatever that value may be.. no one will tell me that) Their the ones who spend their lives looking for it because it is shiny, durable, and was historically a financial proxy. They're the ones who refuse to analyze the meaning of "money" at its most fundamental root. They refuse to give proper credit to human psychological factors that impact its value. They're the ones who are quick to point out that Fiat money is Backed by "nothing", without admitting that gold shares that very same quality. Gold is backed by the same human belief and psychology as Fiat. And Human emotions and psychology are never a constant or in stasis. That is, IMO, is what the "cult of gold" represents. And its followers seem to resent ANYONE bringing up economic or psycological arguments contrary to their belief system. Lorne, Money is a tool, not a god. We are its masters. It should not be a master of mankind and be worshipped. Real money is whatever people think it is, whether it be Fiat, backed by gold/silver, or backed by stone coins or salt (both of which have also served as money in man's history). This is a two way street here Lorne. I resent the fact that certain mentalities have seized control of this thread and refuse to discuss ALL ASPECTS of gold, good or bad. And that dominance that exists here is one of the reasons that I feel compelled to post so often and oppose irrationality and wishful fantasies. Regards, Ron
