Chris,
The time was not right in Nineveh a baby was to be born to Mary that grew up and gave himself as an atonement for the Nations as God had promised to Abraham. Everything every tiny detail will happy just as He said and wills it to in perfection. There is speculation that Jonahs very parents may have been hung on nails and tortured so it was a struggle but God brought him through to victory. The Lord is the perfecter and finisher of our faith and though we are all at different stages of learning we will be made whole when we see Him.

Chris, the next thought that comes to mind is this. Has the sign of Jonah and its ramifications expired with the resurrection of Jesus? I don't think so. After the resurrection came the preaching of the Gospel thru the Jews. We are still in that era.
