I'd suggest taking a cue from Grandma. If you don't need to carry it outside the house, the shotgun is the way to go for personal protection. Much higher probability of a hit, much lower risk to anything behind the target, and much, much, higer intimidation factor. Nobody messes with a 12 ga.

Obviously, we pay a huge price for our frontier mentality and love of violence, and I would argue that our society is very sick because of it. I hate this aspect of America, personally. Is it not possible that we could learn something from less violent countries? Is America always right, or best? I certainly don't think so. Is the phrase "America, right or wrong?" really the operative, definitive one? Also, some of these other countries had more open gun laws, noticed a huge problem with people being killed, and changed their laws. Is America incapable of responding to public health problems? That certainly doesn't bode well for us, in my opinion. I am SO happy that the NAACP is considering joining the lawsuit in Chicago against the gun industry. It is about time!
