Actually, researchers have been using DMSO (DiMethyl SulfOxide) for years as a cryo preservative when freezing cells. I'm guessing that its same compound. Works great on cells (after freezing in liquid nitrogen and remaining in a state of suspended animation, the cells can be thawed and brought back to life).

Demand for Celebrex has been very high. For pain, its not supposed to be that more effecting than compounds like Ibuprofin, but has much lower incidence of gastro-intestinal problems. 66% of prescriptions thus far have been by rheumatologists.

Coby,

Do you use this topically or orally? We use DMSO on the horses, we can buy it at the feed store. I have thought about using it on my aching joints but it is a transdermal. Rub it on a joint and then spill pesticide on it and oops, I'm dead.

60 Minutes did a story on it a couple,or more, years back.

Bill

I didn't find out a whole lot about methyl sulfone, except that it is the major metabolite of DMSO, which is pretty much nontoxic.

But I did find this gem.
Sulfur-Containing Volatiles of Durian Fruits (Durio zibethinus Murr.). Weenen, Hugo; Koolhaas, Wim E.; Apriyantono, Anton. Quest International, Naarden, Neth. J. Agric. Food Chem. (1996), 44(10), 3291-3293. CODEN: JAFCAU ISSN: 0021-8561. Journal written in English.
