Dave, Thanks for the useful and very on-point links. I think of VC funding as kind of a mixed blessing for the 3rd tier - these new companies are basically competitors to existing ones, both for funding and for products. I guess it is something of an expression of confidence that the IPO market for biotechs will re-emerge though, and for the long-term health of the sector. It is definitely worth looking at what sectors are being funded, as the VC's are generally savvy and keep an eye open for what the market is going to want down the road. The signalsmag article is good stuff. The four month time-lag is worth noting - if AGPH/WLA gives the pharmas ideas, it will still be a good few months before we see anything concrete, although rumors will inevitably emerge before then.
