frame relay and asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) services under unified network and service management

Newbridge Networks (NYSE: NN; TSE: NNC) today announced that Empresa Brasileira de Telecomunicacoes
SA (Embratel), Brazil's long-distance carrier, has selected the industry-leading Siemens / Newbridge
MainStreetXpress(tm) 36170 Multiservice Switch to provide asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) services in
Sao Paulo and Rio de Janiero. The scalable, multiservice, multi-access platform enables Embratel to
consolidate existing digital overlay networks, including private line and frame relay infrastructures, onto a
single, unified ATM platform centrally managed by the MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager. The
MainStreetXpress 36170 multiservice ATM network will enable the rapid introduction of new services while
reducing capital and operational costs by consolidating multiple networks and services over a single, high
capacity core network. The consolidated network enables Embratel to deliver end-to-end quality of service
(QoS), managed virtual private network (VPN) services and other new value-added services and support.

offering capabilities - including cell relay, frame relay, advanced private line, local area network (LAN)
