<We live in a $400 K shack. It has 1000 sq ft and no basement.>

Oh my. I don't feel so bad now in my 12 year old 2,500 sq. ft. house with three bathrooms and a two car garage on a 1/2 acre lot that we paid less than half of what you paid for yours. And we don't have to deal with punks on bikes on the vacant lot next door.

Does your family still live in D.C. metro area? How does it compare? I know Potomac is much more "up-scale".

I'm glad I don't have to buy a house in your area. My ranch has 1800 sq feet, another 1800 sq feet in the full finished walkout basement, 5 bedrooms, 4 baths, 2 fireplaces, 3000 sq foot pole barn on 5 acres. I paid $105k although I could probably get close to $200k now.

I'm stunned at this. 400K!!!!
We paid lots less than that for our 4300sf and four full baths. ANd we have 1 1/2 acres and a pool! Why don't you move!!! IS it really worth it to live there? How can people afford it??
Wow.
