Maurice, we first experimented with *OMC-CDMA* at Cal in the 60's. Memories from the era are necessarily almost as convoluted and concatenated as turbo coding, but if my vibes are any guide, it was really far out. I distinctly recall my first spread spectrum experience which is when it became clear that it was possible to occupy multiple adjacent frequencies without noise interference of any kind. Actually, I had the impression that we were occupying most of the known sight and sound universe without in any way transgressing on others [I say this because 'they' tended to ignore us completely during those periods when our spectra were spread, if you follow my drift].
In any event, it's a relief to hear that those years were not wasted as I had feared and that our bold efforts to go where none had gone before has now yielded Orthogonal fruit. Just wait till Q phones sporting this stuff are available--turn on, tune in, and watch those cash registers go zing-a-ling-ling. Yee hah! Surfer Mike
