Maurice, we first experimented with OMC-CDMA at Cal in the 60's. Memories from the era are necessarily almost as convoluted and concatenated as turbo coding, but if my vibes are any guide, it was really far out. I distinctly recall my first spread spectrum experience which is when it became clear that it was possible to occupy multiple adjacent frequencies without noise interference of any kind. Actually, I had the impression that we were occupying most of the known sight and sound universe without in any way transgressing on others [I say this because 'they' tended to ignore us completely during those periods when our spectra were spread, if you follow my drift]. In any event, it's a relief to hear that those years were not wasted as I had feared and that our bold efforts to go where none had gone before has now yielded Orthogonal fruit. Just wait till Q phones sporting this stuff are available--turn on, tune in, and watch those cash registers go zing-a-ling-ling. Yee hah! Surfer Mike
