you are making an assumption that dell is the only PC maker on the planet, INTC and MSFT sell to compaq, HWP, gateway, IBM and some others, it is possible that the others were more successfull than dell in the 4th qtr. I wouldn't believe one analysts comments but we have 3! also remember that compaq is selling directly now and thus competing head to head with dell the area in which dell enjoyed sole dominance and during which time it's stock price exploded.
