You are in the Bethesda/Potomac area? My father (after divorce) used to live not too far from Montgomery Mall. Also, I twice vied with the Walter Johnson team on "It's Academic" in the '70's (they were better on the buzzer).
My impression of Alan Keyes, whom I have met briefly, is that he is very charming and articulate. However, sometimes when making speeches or in the throes of debate, I think he takes on a certain stridency that undermines his ability to persuade. I saw him on "Hardball" one night with Allan Dershowitz, who used to be one of the liberals I still respected, but who has acquitted himself poorly in this affair. Dershowitz was obnoxious, Keyes became increasingly strident in response, and I ended up wondering how much a certain "Harvard machismo" was at play...
