*cdmaOne in Australia* Mika, the current arrangement for OneTel is certainly GSM. They don't have their own network, just renting space as required from a GSM provider. But they are in the process of building a new network. I don't think that new network will be GSM. It will be cdmaOne and they will keep their GSM customers, get more if they can, but start migrating them to their own network as well as get new subscribers onto it.

Telstra will be faced with a spectrum auction in New Zealand in a few weeks. If they bid and buy, they won't be building GSM! They'll go with cdmaOne. As cdma2000/WWeb and Qualcomm's HDR are introduced, the pressure will go on the GSM networks quite quickly. They'll be getting a Newbury style overlay sooner rather than later!
