Vote Bill Bradley...in y2k R, You wrote, > >"...The current administration is popular in California and New York. If other people respond to him the way you do, he might make headway in Iowa and New Hampshire, which focus on "personal" politics. In more densely populated locations and in the geographically separated states having primaries clustered together, "personal" politics hasn't played a notable role in past elections. It is rare for "personal" politics to triumph in recent decades. The last few that I know of occurred in state elections--Dan Walker in Illinois and Lawton Chiles in Florida. Both of them met an extraordinary number of people during their campaigns for governor....." ==================== True...but Bradley still is viewed very favorably in the Northeast and especially in New York State and City......Whether we like to admit it or not, people like to be entertained rather than informed...and many New Yorkers still fondly remember Earl "the Pearl", Phil Jackson, Walt Frazier and Bill Bradley...Basketball has created more of a following than any politician...Plus if you hadn't notice New York has both a Republican Governor and Mayor.......so will be hard to assess race especially if Hillary joins the fray...particularly after her support of Schumer that led to defeat of Republican Incumbant D'amato...BUT don't think Gore has anywhere near the appeal of either Hillary or Bradley...May be just my gut feeling from living in the NE for 16 years ...(including 5 in NY) ...Kinda like a built in Bubba bs meter that always goes off when Gore is in town... Anyway...Bill Bradley has won elections through personal interactions and was elected to the Senate w/o serving in the House or any other political office....as an underdog...against the odds....Bill Bradley basically walked across the State of NJ...and won going away..though in 1990...he got bopped by the Florio factor...and had a less than stellar showing against Whitman....BUT think Bradley really learned a lot from that experience... Now based on early indications in New Hampshire....Bradley has built a good base of support..(see below). Strong showings in the states I already mentioned in prior email (NY, NJ, Iowa & NH) as the clear alternative to the Clinton "Legacy" as an "outsider" sick of partisan politics.......AND especially if perceived as the only other Democratic contender.....will lead directly to the infusion of cash...with early primary wins... Now I know EXACTLY that I'm being a contrarian...since no one ever goes against a popular incumbent VP with the power of the an exonerated albeit still popular pres...and the powerful backing of the White House..behind this VP. But...if I agreed with the "pundits" and polls, I really wouldn't be going out on a limb ...Would I? Plus my prediction therefore, wouldn't be as bold...Now would it? So once again...I predict a Bradley/Feinstein presence in the next White House... And I'll hedge that partially and say Feinstein as VP regardless of who is at the head of the ticket.......which may be political necessity...if Repubs...try the token thang with Dole...though still can't imagine a Bush/Dole ticket due to disaffection of extreme right wing...and limited regional appeal and outreach despite familiarity of political names.... Anyway......Will work for Bradley....regardless...and chip in some bucks soon too.
