Chris, Yes, you are probably missing something. -g-

If the shares are repurchased, but not retired they show up in the accrual balance sheet in the Stockholders' Equity section as a deduct in Treasury Shares, although the complete transaction may be spread out between a couple of accounts. While still issued, treasury shares are dragged out of the EPS calculations. You will need to to go to the stock section of the footnotes (if it is given) or the 10q/k to see the changes in outstanding shares to figure out all the other transactions changing o/s shares, i.e. employee stock options. Go take a look at IBM and get ready to have your eyes pop! -g-
