We are all playing hunches about why Kurlak left. Unless you are his cousin or have spoken with him directly, I suspect that you too don't know. You're entitled to your hunch and you might be correct.

GV, re Kurlak, I guess we'll never know exactly why he left until the book comes out. On CNBC this morning, the Haines-Faber-Kernen crew were having some fun at his expense. Talk was about Niles of BBRS who made the (in)famous call on Dell last Friday. He'll become the axe, or get axed they said, depending on what Dell says today. Then mentioned Kurlak and sad looks came over their faces for an instant. Then, one said "yeah, but he's been missing calls on Intel of late and word is the ML salesmen have been rejecting his direction for quite a while." Guffaws all around. "Yeah, the salesman have to put food on the table and if the ivory tower guy is wrong all the time of late...". More guffaws.

The media is having a field day with this guy, and I think it's deserved. He took AMD and the "price war" far too seriously and ignored the effect of PII and Xeon on margins. It may be the 'what have you done for me lately thing', with him, but too bad. You've got to stay sharp, and 'keep your eye on the ball' as Paul Otellini said in the last Intel CC. Well, Kurlak stepped in the bucket and pulled his head.
