(NYSE:CPQ - news) on Tuesday said its computer services division will offer a range of new network services for Internet-based networks and announced linkups to a set of new strategic partners. The new partnerships will allow Compaq's services group to speed the delivery and installation of new networking equipment products offered by the partners. Compaq said the new partnerships include BMC Software Inc. (Nasdaq:BMCS - news), Entrust Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTU - news), NetScout Systems, Nortel Networks Inc. (Toronto:NTL.TO - news), PictureTel Corp. (Nasdaq:PCTL - news) and International Business Machine Corp's (NYSE:IBM - news) Tivoli Systems unit. They join such existing Compaq service partners Ascend Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:ASND - news), Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:CHKPF - news), Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:CSCO - news), and Computer Associates International Inc. (NYSE:CA - news). Compaq, which is neck and neck with Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HWP - news) as second largest computer company in the world, said its network services business enables large organizations to rapidly transform existing networks into Internet-ready communications and commerce systems. Such networks allow companies to have video conferencing, group collaboration, unified messaging, voice over IP, distance learning, electronic commerce, among other Internet-enabled capabilities. The Yankee Group estimates the overall market for network integration services will grow to $52.7 billion in 2001 from $29.6 billion in 1997. A Compaq official said last year that the goal was for its computer services arm to generate $15 billion in revenues by 2002. Network services is one component of this larger target. Compaq's services operation is divided into three main business units: Customer services; network and systems integration; and operation services, or outsourcing. The bulk of the new network services will be handled by the network and systems integration unit, a spokeswoman said
