Millionaire.com Buys Great Gatsby's Auction for $38.6 Mln

Hilton Head, South Carolina, Feb. 16 (Bloomberg) --
Millionaire.com, which runs an Internet auction for luxury
items, bought Great Gatsby's Auction Gallery Inc. for about
$38.6 million in stock
as it expands its collection.
Hilton Head, South Carolina-based Millionaire issued 4.3
million shares of stock to buy closely held Gatsby's, an Atlanta-
based auctioneer and gallery for furniture and artwork. The
transaction was completed Friday when the company's shares
closed at 8 3/4. They rose 3/4 to 9 1/2 in early afternoon
trading today.
Millionaire gains Gatsby's 100,000-square-foot auction
center, three art galleries, and an antique automobile showroom.
''Their inventory greatly expands our existing collection
of rare and luxurious treasures from around the world,'' Robert
L. White, president of Millionaire, said in a statement.
Gatsby's winter auction last weekend was held live on the
Internet and produced about $5 million in sales, primarily of
company-owned items.
Millionaire's shares more than quadrupled in late December
after the company introduced its Web site. The stock closed at a
record 25 3/4 on Dec. 29. In addition to its online auctions,
the company publishes Millionaire magazine and runs auctions in
Hilton Head."
