Micron Electronics Offers Sony ReWriteable CD Drive With Desktop PCs NAMPA, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 16, 1999-- Provides Easy-to-Use, Inexpensive Removable Storage Solution Micron Electronics, Inc., (Nasdaq:MUEI), a leading direct vendor of personal computer systems, today began offering Sony's new state-of-the-art recordable and rewriteable CD drive as an upgrade option with its award-winning Millennia and Client Pro desktop computer products. The Sony CD-RW drive is the industry's first CD recorder capable of 4X max recording and 24X-max CD reading (10X minimum), providing Micron Millennia and Client Pro users with industry-leading performance for creating their own CDs. The CDs, which hold 650 MB of uncompressed data, can support up to 1000 erasures and rewritings, providing users with an inexpensive and flexible solution for data backup and data distribution. Offering further flexibility, CD-RW discs used in the new CD-RW drives can also be read by Micron's DVD-ROM and CD-ROM drives. "With CD-RW technology, CDs are now a great option for individual data storage and backup as well as for dissemination of large files," said Mark Gonzales, Micron's vice president of worldwide marketing.
