Piracy cloud? That's not a cloud, it's a feature!

The bloated record companies wanted to ban cassettes too, though they settled for a royalty on blank tapes, even if you never record music on them.

Looks to me that mp3 is the deathknell for the labels, but a boon for artists. They can give away their songs, and make their money on ads. Say it takes 20 minutes to download a song, they can rotate a variety of ads during that time. What does a band actually get in royalties per track from a record label? $0.10 or $0.20 per track, they should be able to earn that in ad revenue and merchandise sales.
