<Second, send us some money, because if you're even thinking about buying a PIII right now after reading this, you have gotta be freaking loaded.>

That's a pretty ignorant statement, considering that some people really do need a Pentium III. I just built a Celeron 300A system for a friend who is doing 3D modeling on NT. (The Celeron failed to overclock.) I told him that once the Pentium III is released, he should buy it. Of course, I also told him that if he can wait, he should until the software that he is using is updated to support the Pentium III. But I have a feeling that he can't wait.

So why did I build him a Celeron system in the first place? He needed a new computer ASAP, and if he's going to throw away his current CPU for a Pentium III, it might as well be the cheapest one available in the Slot 1 form factor. The system has PC100 SDRAM (256MB of it!), a 100 MHz BX motherboard, and the latest BIOS which includes support for the Pentium III. This makes his eventual migration to Pentium III pretty much a plug-n-play deal.

BT,

Yes, I too got a chuckle out of that bit. I assumed you all would find it. I hope the various PC magazines detail Intel's price/performance segmentation scam to their readers.
