True. Not only is economic efficiency lost today, it continues to be lost into the future.

It is difficult to name too many industries that have been significantly damaged because of foreign protectionism. America's metal bashing industries were undercapitalized for decades. And the US has its own 'protectionist' rules, which is why the major foreign insurance companies have a minor presence -- they can't get over the hurdle of dealing with 50 regulators in one country!
