<Improve Your Shorting Performance> Steve, could you shed some light for us on the risk of buy-ins on a short and how does your firm handle this situation? I am interested in building hedged positions utilizing short positions and an unexpected buy-in could be a disaster. There have been horror stories regarding this coming from brokers such as Datek.

Brad

Steve, or anyone who might know... I have a question about how to report a dividend on a shorted stock. My account records show a debit of the dividend amount, but I got a 1099-div. Do I report the dividend as a negative amount or what?

thanks...tai

Here's a naive question about shorting... Can a shorted stock be reshorted? That is, if I short 100 shares, can someone else short the same 100 shares (borrowing the stock from the person who bought it from me)?

If this is allowed then I can understand the severity of a short squeeze in such a situation.
