El: Verrry positive article!! I especially liked this stuff ...

Isn't it a bit late for Compaq to join this battle?

''We are ahead of everybody else,'' Pfeiffer told Reuters in an interview. ''You may say that's just talk, but let me give you the facts. We have not been communicating how strong Compaq is in the total Internet structure.''

EXCEED $50 BILLION???? YES!

''Fifty billion dollars by 2000, we could possibly exceed that. This is very achievable,'' PfeEliffer said.

Almost sounds like the price of Alta Vista is irrelevant in EP's mind. Hmmmmmmm, what is he thinking????

When asked how much the company might be worth, Pfeiffer said: ''Half a billion dollars, a billion dollars, I don't know, they are just numbers.''

''We pick the timing when we file the application to proceed, and we'll look at the whole Internet market place and stock prices and valuations and so on. We will try and pick the best timing,''Pfeiffer told Reuters.

El- As you know, I am rooting for Compaq..but EP's "announcements", timed the day of Dell's earning releases (last 2/3 quarters), smell like petty games to me...IMO, EP needs to worry about leading CPQ to be the best "CPQ" CPQ can be, and not worry about what Dell (or the stock is doing)...Dell and Compaq have the ability to rule the PC waters if they stay focused...These "taking market share" jabs (by EP) are going to look silly come Q1...when the seasonal consumer bump that CPQ gets wears off...and Dell's share jumps up again...Facts are, Compaq and Dell are taking share from all others...but (not really) each other...

If 5fer and management stick with execution/refining their vision..the rest will take care of itself...enough "announcements" already....he devalues their potency by the frequent use...

1st half of year should be bright for both companies and stocks, IMO
