Mark,
Cincinnati Bell (SW Ohio) started offering basic speed ADSL for $30/mo on top of regular phone charges ($20's). Installation was waived the first few weeks, but now charging $500. Modem is a Cisco 675, which they install near your computer. Not available in neighborhood I'm moving to shortly, else I'd have it by now.

Meanwhile, the local cable company (Warner) just announced they'll have an even faster cable modem service later this year for about the same $$, and it's "always on", and needs neither passwords nor those filters in every telephone on that tel-#.

My, my, at least THIS kind of progress is pretty neat.
