<<That Dell knows he's got a problem is evident in the ultra cheapo 2 for 1 stock split. It will backfire this time. A negative, not a positive.>>

I thought a smart man like M. Dell should not do this kind of desperate splitting game. I guess I was wrong.

2 17:06 T =Dell CEO -2: Defends Revenue Growth Rate Of 38% >DELL

By Christopher Grimes

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Dell Computer Corp. (DELL) founder and Chief
Executive
Michael Dell said his company performed better than its competitors in
the
fourth quarter and still has a lot of growing to do.
As Wall Street begins to show concern that the company's rapid growth
may be
ebbing, Dell said his company showed unit and revenue growth that was
"significantly faster than the industry" rate.
Some analysts warned last week that the company's revenue growth is
slowing.
Indeed, Dell's revenue of $5.2 billion came in shy of some Wall Street
targets,
though it was up 38% from a year ago.
"To be fair, it wasn't the highest growth rate Dell's ever seen," Dell
said
in an interview with Dow Jones. "But it certainly was not the lowest
either."
He said unit sales increased 55% from a year ago, but by only 9% from
the -
third quarter to the fourth. Computer sales over the Internet rose to
$14
million a day, compared with $10 million a day in the third quarter.
"So on any real basis, certainly Dell was the best performing company in
the
sector," he said. "We grew quite a bit faster than Compaq ... throughout
the
year," he said, referring to rival Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ).
