DELL is being encroached upon by not just the recent moves by Compaq and HP to sell direct similar to Dell but also by a general restructuring of the industry. That is what is more frightening. About 60% of PC sales go to the "other" manufacturers rather than the big boys. DELL is both being smart and is being forced to fight their way up the food chain or they will face increased pressure in the stand-alone PC market. You can't avoid the inevitable. The shift is happening toward giving away the PC in order to sell the service. A dramatic example of this has been the recent give aways of over 10,000 Compaq PCs by an ISP in return for using a dedicated browser (for the ad revenue). The PC is just the conduit to information - "The PC is dead, long live the Information age!"

DELL remains a great company and I think they will evolve into more and more of a service oriented company offering higher end gear. But the stock is, as I stated several days ago, extremely overvalued along with many other high tech companies. Time for a reality check.
