David, IMO, there have been some LIVE market makers coming in and out. . .when they come in, they need inventory and are filled with 50k or 100k without affecting the bid or ask. Likewise, should one leave a similar trade occurs, with no real effect on the price.

These trades typically happen just before or after the closing bell, but not necessarily. When all live market makers leave a stock, it is then switched on to "autotrade" or something like that. And a computerized market maker takes your trades and adjusts the bid and ask according to its current program.

In higher volume stocks, it is not uncommon to see MMs trade between them in large volume. This too, has no effect on the price. Sometimes as much as half the volume of a given day is in MM trades between themselves.

So the activity on PLCO is not unusual, in my opinion.

Since we are expecting news out anytime, I would hope that we are filling market makers, wishing to make market when it gets hit with volume soon.

Hope that helps.
