I would not call the conf. call upbeat. But it was realistic. The CFO said "we couldve been more aggressive in our efficiencies..the pricing strategy in the 3rd Q carried over into the 4th quarter..had we been slightly more aggressive in pricing we wouldve generated 200 more millions in revenue..the win rate was points lower in the third quarter than in the 4th.."
" did we have an optimal balance between top and bottom line growth?..negative...had we been more aggressive we could have picked off a few basis points of net margins and gained 200 million in revenue and another cent in earnings per share."
He did say the pipeline to the next quarter was" the strongest we've ever had" but neither the CFO nor Dell could say if the results of 4th quarter wins would come in the next quarter and in fact they implied the second half of the year is usually the best (even given this strong pipeline)..
The fact that they hae doubled manufacturing space and split the stock says they expect continued growth, Dell said.
The Dellstore may be something or just a distraction from the real story. which is-- at long last hypergrowth is slowing. I had expected at least another two years but now it seems we will grow at a less rapid pace. "We are a big compay" Dell said.

That's my take. I sold 1/3 of my shares this am at 92 .5 to close out margin debt. I am undecided about tomorrow. I may sell half of the rest. I saw quite a lot of short term gains go poof! in 2 trading days.
Dell can go a bit lower before it gets to my cost. I bought too much just recently.
I dont think that conference call was upbeat. Dell and Meredith sounded disappointed to me.

Freeus:
I step out to the store to pick up a few party favors and what do I find?. Somebody left the stockade gate open and we get invaded by animals- mostly them no good bears, but a few polecats too. My Gawd. What is that brown stuff they're throwing over the fence, it looks like- It CANT be-heavenstobetsy it IS, B*#RS%^T . It'll takes WEEKS to clean this place up and what is that funny smell?.
And that MD let me down too. I was convinced we would get a 5/2
split and we only get a miserable 2/1. Sheeeesh
I guess there is no party tonite. Best I can hope for is to ride into town tomorrow and buy some of this stock at fire-sale prices.
