CNBC had a great report on the DOJ this evening--I loved it.

The major points were:

The DOJ is concerned over what remedies to request. They don't want to end up making PCs more expensive---just imagine paying for your browser or voice recognition technology in the future. They are consulting politicians and even the white house. A part of the concern is about the market for PCs. The reason for their concern stems from the fact that they "appear" to be winning the case ---big. They don't want to overstep their objectives at the start. The experts giving opinions in the report talked about the problems that could face the PC industry if drastic measures were taken.

The most important point in the story was what I posted yesterday. That is, the case is going to the supreme court. Therefore, Judge Jackson will be very cautious about what remedies he proposes, wanting to ensure it will stick through the appeals process. Who want s to look like a fool? To me---that means no identical "baby Bills" and no licensing of Windows being forced upon the company. Therefore-------my conclusion------Microsoft shareholders are in a win win situation.

BTW--I can imagine what the politicians have to say---"make sure shareholders don't lose out". Why is this important? MSFT is the top on the Index funds--a lot of votes could be lost----disaster could strike the US tech industry if the powerbase is disturbed. One of MSFT's lobbyists is close to Al Gore (from what i remember). Looks good to me folks.
