My take is: What's the big deal? It isn't as if there was a problem with a new technology, or the growth in computers didn't exist, or there was a problem in consumer acceptance. The problem is basically the nature of investors who are always looking for a quick fix. It's the momo guys.

Look at it this way. Maybe Dell could have made the revenue numbers by shaving 10% off of the price. In other words, they could have have sold and additional $300 MM in machines, and made only another 12% (or $36MM) on those sales. After tax that would yield $25.2MM We've got 1,3686,000,000 shares outstanding. So it would have brought less than $.01 down to the bottom line. Great! And suppose that had been done would that make you happier? And would that have any implication for growth going forward? I don't think so.

But to listen to the bears howl the end is certainly nigh! Again, I don't think so.

The take home lesson ought to be to the momentum investors. Reality check time guys! Don't get caught up in the belief that earnings are meaningless and stocks climb in a vacuum.

Dell will be just fine. I am holding my shares for the long term (which cost me under $13 each).
