the Clinton administration is a level of venality, corruption and criminality that is also, wholly outside of our historic experience.

Not really the place for this discussion, but if you believe that I'd suggest taking a look at the history they don't teach in school. The McKinley administration might be an interesting start; there are many others. Bill is business as usual, with a little more talk about it than usual.

Peter,
I agree with your sentiments that this looming disaster is no secret. My gut feeling is that those in the know will be spared and therefore is in the "let me get mine while the getting is good" mode and will retreat to their billion dollar estates when the rest of us are trying to salvage the wreckage.

The others who should know are simply ignoring the unthinkable because it's all too good to be bad.
