Here is a scenario I am afraid of - my worst fears have come true now that DELL has posted weaker numbers and has been clobbered after hours. DELLs revenue shortfall means that there will be much more severe competition for market share amongst DELL, CPQ, IBM and HWP. NEC-Packard Bell just announced huge losses. THis may have a severe macro effect on the entire PC sector causing a correction with the PC makers. I guess time will tell.

Tokyo-based NEC's previous biggest loss was 45.2 billion yen
in the year ended March 1993, when it was forced to cut PC prices
in response to a the introduction of Japanese-language PCs from
Compaq Computer Co. of the U.S.. The Compaq models used the
International Business Machines Corp. standard rather than NEC's
proprietary operating system

There it is again. The 800 pound gorilla of the computer market. Compaq!! Hmmm, IBM in the same paragraph. How long before the market catches on?
