HP: HP unveils next generation of Vectra PCs
FEB 16, 1999, M2 Communications - Latest HP Vectra PCs deliver superior corporate PC manageability, stability, security
Hewlett-Packard today announced the expansion of its line of HP Vectra PCs for corporate customers. These latest HP Vectra corporate PCs are engineered to enable high IT efficiency and lower PC operating costs with unparalleled PC manageability, stability and security features.

With today's announcement, HP expands it award-winning line of HP Vectra PCs for corporate customers and, once again, sets the standard for corporate desktop PCs by delivering real solutions for today's IT issues, while maintaining flexibility for the future.

The new HP Vectra PCs are based on Intel(R) Celeron(TM) and Pentium(R) II processors and are slated to incorporate Intel Pentium III processors as soon as they are available.

Qualify One, Deploy Many
The latest HP Vectra VL PC now delivers the most manageable, stable and secure desktop PC to date in three new form factors. Because each design offers the same key components, IT managers need qualify just one PC to deploy HP Vectra PCs throughout their companies -- dramatically reducing and simplifying the time-consuming deployment process. These new, flexible form factors include the following:

* an innovative, compact design that is about half the size of a conventional desktop PC with noticeably quieter operation;

* a mini-tower that offers maximum expandability with six slots and shelves; and

* a new desktop model with 4 x 4 expandability.

In addition, the new Vectra VL PC models simplify serviceability dramatically with a new easy-access chassis. IS managers can remove the outer case, slide out the motherboard and remove components -- all without using any tools. According to research done by HP, these new serviceability features may slice maintenance time by as much as 80 percent over previous models.

A Windows(R) 2000-ready HP Vectra VL PC with a small form factor comes with a Pentium II 400MHz processor, 8.4GB hard-disk drive, 64MB SDRAM, Matrox MGA G200 2D graphics controller with 8MB video memory, integrated sound, 3Com Fast Etherlink XL 10/100 TX LAN card, 24x slim CD-ROM and Windows NT(R), all for an expected U.K. estimated street price of GBP985(1).

Leading With PC Stability and Security
HP continues its lead in corporate PC stability and security with advanced features, announced in January, that help customers enhance IT efficiency and protect company data. These features include the following:

* HP Vectra PC Early Evaluation -- HP is making it easier than ever to test and upgrade to the latest PC models with a new HP Vectra PC early evaluator program for corporate customers. This program provides HP Vectra PCs for early evaluation, proactive notification of product specification changes, an in-depth compatibility analysis of HP Vectra PC components, dedicated phone support and up-to-date testing guidance.

* Latest PC Security -- A continuation of HP's ongoing PC security initiative, an HP ProtectTools smart-card kit (expected to be available in March) means fast and easy implementation of a corporate smart-card program. The kit, which will include a smart-card reader, two smart cards and all the necessary software, is expected to sell for a U.K. estimated street price of just GBP24(1).

Economical Corporate PC Deployment
The HP Vectra VE PC line is engineered for easy and economical deployment in a managed environment. Today's announcement adds a sleek new HP Vectra VE PC desktop design that is 30 percent smaller than its predecessor.

An HP Vectra VE PC with Pentium II 400MHz processor, 4.3GB hard-disk drive, 32MB SDRAM, integrated 16-bit stereo full-duplex PCI sound, Matrox MGA G200 graphics controller with 8MB SGRAM and Windows 95 is expected to sell for a U.K. estimated street price of GBP805(1).
