It's not that the people NEED AOL, AOL just made them an offer they couldn't refuse. Through good marketing, the product was in front of people, and they recognized and trusted the name. <<AOL is by far the dominant number one player. ETrade is number 3 in its crowded field.>> There was a time when AOL was a distant number three to Prodigy and Compuserve. They were never expected to make it. Through good marketing on their part and bad decisions by their competition, they hung in there.
