Hi Del,
Of course I know you weren't out here advocating affairs! And certainly not one so tawdry and tasteless! I was just thinking tonight that really if a leader is going to commit these acts, he needs to do so with some flair, with style! Shouldn't a presidential paramour be someone with class, wit, education? A princess, a Nobel prize winner, a diva--like Callas to Onassis. Now, THAT was an affair!! But pizza and cigars just don't provide much passion and glamour. I try to picture Bill on the moors sobbing Monica, Monica as the wind wuthers around him. It just doesn't work-he has on running shorts and he's eating a Big Mac. How about Monica penning her "Sonnets For the Hillbilly"? Let the world's sharpness like a clasping knife Shut in upon itself and do no harm in this close hand of Love! No, I can't seem to get her off the phone where she's giggling with Linda Tripp. I envision him renouncing the Oval Office for the love of his life, our own American Duke of Windsor... whoops-well, no but he'll get her a job out of town.

Maybe I just see too many operas.

<<Keep in mind that I never said that he should have an affair, but I will still say
that it is a personal affair, and certainly not an offense to be investigated by a special
prosecutor, or to be impeached over. Do you have the same contempt for F.D.R. and
J.F.K., and should they have been removed from office? Did Reagan's lies about
Iran-Contra upset you this much, or was that OK because he had that nice
grandfatherly air about him? To me Reagan's lies were far more contemptible because
he used his well polished acting abilities to look oh so sincere while he was blatantly
lying, and they were about an issue that was far more important. And a lot of those who
are now aghast at Clinton's lies admired Reagan for lying to those who didn't support his
illegal Contra war.>>

Are we STILL talking about this? What you and Charles Grodin and the part of the American public which apparently doesn't understand sexual harassment law are missing is that in the Paula Jones case, Clinton was attempting to deprive Paula of her right to a fair trial. This goes way beyond lying about a "private" sexual behavior, because in sexual harassment law in America the prior sexual behavior of the defendant is considered relevant. I am really stunned that so many people do not understand this. It is the Clinton administration that caused most of our sexual harassment law to be written, and it puzzles me greatly that feminists in particular have compromised their ideals to defend this man, who treats women like pond scum, basically.
