3Com Unveils Enhanced 3Com Park Web Site; Technology Provides Unique
Look Inside Home of San Francisco 49ers, Giants
BW - 09:07 a.m. Feb 17, 1999 Eastern

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BW SportsWire)--Feb. 17, 1999--Global networking leader
3Com Corporation (Nasdaq:COMS) today launched a re-designed Web site featuring
3Com Park, the home to the National Football League's San Francisco 49ers and
Major League Baseball's San Francisco Giants.

The site, which can be viewed at 3com.com, is designed to
provide a rewarding, interactive Web experience. Visitors can use the latest in Web
technology to learn about 3Com Park and the entertaining events that occur within its
confines.

The 3Com Park online experience truly revolves around 3Com's broad range of
consumer networking products. For example, visitors can download a Palm III(tm)
software application that enables them to follow the schedules for the 49ers and Giants.

With V.90 56K(a) technology featured in 3Com's line of U.S. Robotics(R) modems,
users can view the history of 3Com Park on an interactive, Shockwave-based timeline.
Additionally, with the added bandwidth provided by a 56K connection, those planning
to visit the park can check out the view from any vantage point in the stadium using
IPIX richmedia technology.

"The strategy behind the new 3Com Park site is to provide users with a vehicle to
essentially test 3Com(R) information access products using hot Web technology such
as shockwave and real-time Java," said Neil Clemmons, vice president of marketing
for 3Com Corporation. "The site enables fans from around the world to learn more
about the Giants, 49ers and the evolution of Bay Area sports. At the same time, 3Com
is able to further develop brand-recognition for the company and its products."

Visitors to 3Com Park online are able to learn about the history of the park and the
teams that call it home, find an appropriate route to the park from anywhere in the San
Francisco Bay area, and even check out the view from 14 seating areas around the
stadium. With real-time Java-based weather news, those planning to attend an event
can even find tips as to how to dress appropriately for the ever-changing weather
conditions at 3Com Park -- located at Candlestick Point on the shores of the San
Francisco Bay.

The city of San Francisco, the San Francisco 49ers and 3Com Corporation announced
in 1995 that Candlestick Park would be renamed 3Com Park. 3Com, one of the
world's fastest growing and largest data networking companies became the first high
technology company to sponsor a professional sports venue in the United States.

In the early 1990s, the park needed many costly improvements. The city of San
Francisco sought corporate sponsors to help offset the expenses. While other national
sponsors were considered, the City and the San Francisco 49ers agreed that a local
company such as 3Com, with a tradition of commitment to the community, was the
best option.

These deals are going to produce HUGE revenue growth for COMS.
This service will be so hot, BellSouth will not be able to handle the demand. Look for a bunch more regional bells to do the same. They are looking to slow down cable modem penetration of their markets, and ASDL is a good way to do that. Go COMS!
