"Friends of Earth"...or "Friends of ACME CHEMICALS, UK"???

Here is an emotional claim that will just fly right into Brit heads:

"Environmental pressure Group Friends of the Earth (FOE) said GM
crops could threaten the brown hare, the horseshoe bat, the skylark,
the song thrush and the great crested newt."

Hold on, I thought these species were threatened by traditional pesticides? Since you don't need to spray these as much with some GM plants, there is no escape of pesticide, and thus there is LESS chance of damage to the thrush and newt.

Is it possible that "Friends of Earth" is really funded by PESTICIDE producers? Wouldn't it be ironic if GM crops were shot down for "reasons" which were completely OPPOSITE of the truth?

Who is really behind some of these campaigns? That would be an interesting Brit news item.
