You're right, of course. And they couldn't have gotten away with it if they were the kind of band that did the same show over and over. My brother has a wall of more than 500 tapes in his garage of their live concerts spanning 12 years. I've never heard two that were the same. Record comapanies may have been hurt by this underground tape market, but I think Jerry and the band were beneficiaries of it. I _know_ that the fans were beneficiaries of it.

It seems somehow repugnant that (for other bands and GD's studio releases) you can listen to a great set on tape (or CD), and not be able to make a copy and send it to a friend because that would make you a criminal.
