This came from xDSL online-newsletter. Is Pair or Aware involved in this revenue stream? Life would be so much easier if it were always clear who is buying from whom ...

February 17, 1999 -- Regional phone
operator BellSouth Corp. and network
equipment supplier 3Com Corp.
Wednesday said BellSouth plans to offer
high-speed Internet services over its
phone lines in its southeast U.S. service
area.

BellSouth shares soared more than 10
percent ahead of the announcement,
closing up $4.81 at $49.50, only 50 cents
off its 52-week high, in New York Stock
Exchange composite trade Tuesday.

It will be the widest deployment of
high-speed Internet services via ADSL
(asymmetric digital subscriber line) and
will be available to over five million
customers in 30 southeastern markets
during the first half of 1999.

The BellSouth.net FastAccess ADSL
service will compete with high-speed
services offered over cable television,
provided by AtHome Corp. and AT&T
Corp. following its acquisition of
Tele-Communications Inc.

BellSouth will use 3Com equipment in its
offices, and the companies will offer 3Com
modems and BellSouth high-speed
services through joint retail and online
locations and BellSouth sales offices to
encourage people to use the service for
Internet access.

The companies plan to offer equipment
that meets ADSL industry standards that
allow it to run on any high-speed network
by the middle of 1999.

The alliance is part of BellSouth's data
strategy, which the company said it
expects to generate more than $5 billion in
data services revenue annually by 2002.

Tim,

I really appreciate your willingness to share your wisdom with us all. I'm not expecting to make money (without help) with my present level of experience, though I have been very lucky this past year. I do expect that the knowledge you (and others at SI) share, and the wisdom I am developing, will allow me to make profitable decisions as time moves on.

Up until this month, I've only been able to make questionably-timed long decisions, and minute-by-minute momo transactions. I did not recognize MM strategies, and didn't have any feel for making position plays. I am now learning to look ahead a few days and weeks, without fear of those spooky chart jitters.

I'm beginning to understand the motives behind the fluctuations. Most recently I've been watching Anthony, and realize his function has significant impact on my trades. (My favorite saying regarding stocks: "If I knew then what I know now").

I don't expect to get rich this year. I'm still not competent with the market in the way I am competent with my engineering profession. I do, however, expect to get rich in the coming decade. I am now applying the energy to trading that I have applied to gain my other scientific learnings.

My philosophy is: If you work hard at electronic systems design, you get really good at designing circuits. If you work really hard at mechanical systems design, you get really good at making gizmos. If you work really hard at the stock market, you get really good at making money. It all takes time, however.

You are helping me understand the process more quickly. Thanks.

(This looks like it may end up being a good day for FORE.)

Shoe.
