TCI shareholders approve merger with AT&T

February 17, 1999 01:30 PM
LITTLETON, Colo., Feb 17 (Reuters) - Tele-Communications Inc. TCOMA shareholders voted on Wednesday to approve the acquisition of the cable TV company by telecommunications giant AT&T Corp., ending a quarter century of independence.

"It's been a hell of a run," TCI Chairman John Malone told shareholders at a special meeting held to approve the $48 billion deal.

The transaction, approved earlier in the day by AT&T shareholders, still requires approval by the Federal Communications Commission.

The deal is expected to be completed in early March. REUTERS
