>>the proposed transaction is in line with the company's virtual vertical manufacturing strategy<< Virtual manufacturing?

Upon rereading carefully it would appear a disk drive maker could be eliminated but it would still exist in virtual form for day-trading?

Yogi;

<<komag buying WDC media operations for unregistered stock.>>

This is the deal that has kept me from re-rentering a WDC short. It has been the hot n heavy rumor for weeks. I just do not know how the market is going to treat this news. But between us threadsters I believe there is going to be a great oppty for another couple of short trades here and there. This deal is way too late for WDC IMO and you can just about kiss HMTT's stock bon voyage on its long trip south. KMAG may pop but for why?
Best,
Stitch

Yogi, you beat me posting the pr on KMAG and WDC. I just bought KMAG today. Any thoughts on how this will play out on KMAG and WDC? The buying company's stock normally tanks. But if these were internut companies they will both go up.

I was wondering if there is a relation between heads and media? The recent announcements of RDRT making an areal density record seemed to be joined with advances at HMT. This makes me wonder if it's possible that media and heads have a relationship, and if so, IBM will be supplying a large portion of WD's future heads which would indicate Komag would need to work, perhaps, more closly with IBM in the future???

Doesn't really make sense, but thought I'd like to know just in case.

On the surface, it looks like a good deal for Komag, but then what are they really buying when there's too much capacity in media anyway, and probably the capital expenses to bring along WD's operations are too high anyway. The answer would seem that they are simply buying a fixed percentage of WD's future business and they are buying it with unrecorded stock that won't be payable for several years. A good deal?

I would suppose it depends on whether WD survives as an independent company, or at all.

Thanks,

Mark
