It may well be a fabrication with the intended result you described. If so, my bad for passing it on, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were true.

Based on research the Kinsey's conducted among the gay population in S.F. in the 70's (I think), I do believe there is a serious neurosis at work in a statistically significant portion of the gay male population there. The numbers relating to anonymous sexual encounters were staggering -- we're talking hundreds (sometimes thousands) of partners, and among even my most libidinous hetero male friends, I don't find a parallel.

Some will say "well look at Wilt Chamberlain and his 'Numbers'". I submit that Wilt (if he was telling the truth) was a one in a million hetero, while the Kinseys reported a gay male community in S.F. that was full of "Wilts".

I don't have the sense that sexual "safety" is any more popular in the gay community than in the hetero community, but when we're talking frequencies of the proportion the Kinsey's described, public health becomes a serious concern IMO.

<<The gay folk I have talked to>>

You haven't talked to enough then. It's far more perverse that that post by karma. They are not all like that, but their is a militant part of the group and a hopelessly perverse aspect to another segment of the group. But who cares if they keep it to themselves. But they don't. Their is a strong PC activism in the country promoting it. That is what I object to. nuff said about it.

I suspect that the story is either a fabrication or a provocation, too. You know the gerbil myth? Well, Dan Savage, a gay writer for the Village Voice, researched it, and wrote that it was exactly that, a myth, an urban legend. Not an iota of medical or other indication that such a thing had ever happened in real life.

But anything done by a minuscule fraction of any group doesn't mean anything anyway about that group. Only about the particular individuals that do it.

Huh, I just submitted this, and 'miniscule' came up red, so I tried 'minuscule,' which looks funny to me, but is approved by the spellchecker.
