Bill, look, now I am in France<g>. News February 17, 23:48 Eastern Time FEB 17, 1999, M2 Communications - SOPHIA ANTIPOLIS, France -- Lucent Technologies today announced the addition of enhanced PrePaid and Virtual Private Network (VPN) services to its Global Systems for Mobile Communications (GSM) Intelligent Network (IN) platform. These enhanced services will allow GSM operators to rapidly rollout innovative, revenue-generating services to their customers. "In a crowded GSM marketplace, operators are always looking for the newest service that will give them an edge over their competitors," said Christian Van Ghelder, vice president of Lucent's Communications Software group for Europe, Middle East and Africa. "Lucent's IN-based services allow GSM operators to quickly provide fully featured and innovative value-added services to meet the needs of their customers and generate new revenue." The enhanced PrePaid and VPN services are based on Lucent's proven IN platform, which can operate in a multi-vendor environment and can work with non-Lucent GSM networks and their back office systems. Lucent's PrePaid service addresses one of the fastest growing opportunities in the GSM market by allowing operators to offer their customers a full range of enhanced features such as call screening, "Family and Friends" and home zone charging. With Lucent's PrePaid service, operators can differentiate themselves from their competitors by using multiple classes of service to tailor specific PrePaid offerings to each of their target markets. Since Lucent's solution complies with ETSI, INAP and CAMEL standards, PrePaid customers will also be able to roam outside of their home network and use their phone in a standards compliant network. "More and more consumers are signing up for service because it's quick, easy and doesn't require a contract," said Van Ghelder. "This allows GSM operators to differentiate their service while quickly generating additional revenue and addressing new market segments." Lucent's VPN solution allows network operators to target the high revenue-generating corporate market. Corporations typically source their fixed line and mobile phone service from multiple operators, which can create call management and cost efficiency problems. Lucent's VPN service allows companies to integrate their fixed line and mobile subscribers under a single, easy to manage VPN, thereby providing a single, consistent set of rich features improving call completion rates and reducing costs. An integrated VPN allows companies to control and reduce their communication costs by providing centralized administration for both mobile and fixed line users. Lucent's VPN solution also allows companies to improve communication within the organization by offering comprehensive call management features. Both solutions are generally available. Enhanced Prepaid features such as Family and Friends, CAMEL-network roaming and Call Forwarding will be available second quarter. Lucent offers a wide range of Intelligent Network solutions that allow service providers to offer wireless, wireline and Internet services to consumers across a variety of protocols. Lucent's wireless IN software solutions allow consumers to take advantage of services such as Prepaid, Short Message Service and Calling Party Pays. Lucent also offers a wide range of IN-based wireline and Internet services such as Flexible Number Routing, Long-Distance Platform and Internet Call Waiting.
