There is no need to. The ID# request and response
are still going to your modem via a piece of software.
A bunch of "plug-ins" will be offered that
will easily do the job.

Since the ID number will be enabled and disabled via the BIOS, or worse yet, a utility program provided by Intel, they also have to worry about the utility program or the BIOS being spoofed by rogue software.

Furthermore, the fact that the ID is encrypted before being sent over the Internet does not make it secure. Its encrypted by a cipher sent from the website receiving the encrypted ID. Therefore, they, and any other website that does business with you, can decrypt the actual ID number.

The worst feature of this supposedly "secure" method of identification is that websites and users will stop being careful with information.
